While it is true that dance class is a fun, extra-curricular activity designed to keep you or your child active—there are plenty of real-life benefits that enrolling in a dance class brings. Dance allows us to work on our strength, flexibility, and full cognitive development, and is a fantastic activity and art that provides benefits to our minds and bodies—even into adulthood.

Dance Benefits You Physically
By participating in Dance Classes, students are learning to keep their bodies strong, healthy, and active. Dancer's use every part of their body, utilizing even the smallest of muscles within their fingers and toes, to the biggest of muscles within their legs. By training all of these muscles individually, dancers are able to support healthy growth. There isn't just one area of the body that benefits from the art of dance—in fact, dance is a full body workout. Dancers must practice strong posture, core control, strength, and alignment.

Dance Benefits You Cognitively
Dance encourages repetition, visualization, and communication skills. This allows children to begin developing strong cognitive abilities. The best part is, that many of these skills are lifelong. Memory, Problem Solving, Attention Span, Attention to Detail, Decision Making, and Listening skills are all taught within the art of dance. It is also important to note that dance class can foster social and emotional development as well, and offers a path toward healthy self-esteem and self acceptance.

Dance Benefits You Emotionally
Although dance may be the last thing you want to do when you're feeling down, it might be exactly what you need to turn that frown upside down! Dancing can result in the production of mood-boosting chemicals such as endorphins and serotonin. Not only does dance create a chemical reaction within us, but it also fosters a sense of community and belonging. By attending a dance class, you are surrounded with like-minded individuals who enjoy the same activity as you do and are there to support you when you feel alone or isolated.
The Cognitive Development that we covered earlier also plays a role in the emotional healing elements of dance. When we focus our body and mind on the movements of dance, we are temporarily distracting ourselves from our negative thoughts and emotional pain. Dancing allows us to open our hearts to connection, and fosters self-confidence and a physical routine that allows us to feel healthy from the inside out.
